MoreThe Romanian Riviera from the Ukrainian border to the Bulgarian border offers 275 km of shores to be enjoyed! Having a sea is a privilege both for leisure and for business. The Romanian Black Sea was used and attracted trade since Greek and Roman civilizations (Tomis and Callatis settings are proofs this long time history), then in the period between wars was used by the aristocrats of the time who built some amazing Art Deco villas then, then continued to develop more in the 60`s as an ambitious plan of former Ceausescu president who built large elegant hotels and beaches at the time when socialism encourage everybody to have 2 weeks holidays in the summer and 2 weeks in the winter. The upper class gathered mostly around Neptun ( the presidential resort) and Mamaia, while the South resorts became more popular with the working class. Business wise, Constanta area attracts a lot of large companies and expats who work on the naval harbours where we asamble boats or in oil and gas business extracting oil from the sea and by NATO staff who gather in the area for support. A brief description of the resorts as I see it now in 2023: Starting from Danube Delta ( a must visit) where Danube washes her tired waters in the sea, Corbu and Vadu are the most untouched villages with large beaches and I love that. Being a National reservation you are not allowed to build with foundation, so nature lovers go and enjoy the unspoiled beaches and find different styles of accommodation from campers to tents or to some recently opened accommodation options- luxurious tents and cabins built on pillars with no foundation. Navodari besides being a large harbour, attracted developers as land was cheap not long ago. Now it is pretty crowded with modern developments/aparthotels with or without seaview that sell and rent well due to Mamaia proximity, famous for its nightlife clubs and beaches prefered by bachelors and young people with good possibilities. Mamaia Nord was a classy resort with Vega, Rex and other 5 stars hotels, now it is a mix with new developing blocks to rent for the season or sell. two lakes are to be found opposite the beach, divided by a short strip of land and there are some cozy villas with good rental potential. Mamaia downtown and Constanta kept the classic look as there was not much land to explore for new development. I like it here because some smart entrepreneurs bought older outdated places, renovated and converted into luxurious apartment hotels with sea views. The old city of Constanta is charming to explore by foot and so is the Casino promenade where you can admire one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau heritage- the Cazino, soon to be reopened in spring 2024 as a Casino and harbour. Agigea and Lazu are still good locations mostly for housing and being close by the highway so there are some access advantages/facilities. Great fish restaurant and sea is set up to be found here,"Pescaria lui Matei". Eforie Nord and South are older resorts that still preserved the charm of the modernist years but new construction and enlarged beaches spoiled a bit the cache. New boutique hotels opened up and I heartily recommend Euforia and La Arome or you can enjoy year round the large Europa hotel with Spa, medical and recovery facilities with salt water and much valued "black gold" mud from Techirghiol - nearby on the sapropelic salty lake. Techirghiol is a gem and I personally benefit from its charm and natural therapies. Further Sooth, Costinesti- the former youth resort with no much new investment going on, large beaches and mixed crowds. Olimp and Neptun are further south and were known for luxurious hotels and beaches, mostly for the communist regime staff. Nowadays, smart investors developed luxurious cozy bungalows, small villas and restos on the private cozy beach- "Casa Blanca", "Hacienda by the Sea", "Casa de la Mare" - with pool and gourmet chef restaurants. This is where we spend our summers as the place is serene, dogs are allowed and you can feel very relaxed and pampered as it is not very crowded. A very popular year round open restaurant is to be found here and fresh fish from Black sea (calcan -turbot) and fish eggs (icre) are a must to try If you wish for some fancy bars and atmosphere or more elegant new accommodation, you have options further down towards Neptune- as Novum By The Sea and Moussay beach. Brand new developments have been raised here with sea views and I see they are very demanded and purchased as luxurious homes for the summer or as investment to be rented as apart hotel. Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Mangalia are still less developed and pretty crowded but the sea is beautiful everywhere. 2 Mai and Vama Veche are former villages and hippy resorts that still kept the busyness and the free spirits vibe. In Vama Veche new boutique hotels and fancy beach bars with restaurants have been opened for nightlife attraction. Still prefered by the younger generation. This being said, I invite you to explore those territories and serene beaches, form your opinion, enjoy and spread the good vibes in Romania, a country with soul! I am here for any advice or recommendation you might have, for a short or long term rent, for buying or just for holiday.
